Swenja Stellfeld - Yoga Teacher - Wanaka 'yoga has been and is an incredible journey of self discovery-getting to know myself. the more i learn about myself ,the more i learn about the human condition and feel the desire to share, my knowledge and being in service to others, sharing the beauty of balance in our lives, connecting with one another and opening our hearts, minds and souls. finding stillness. my yoga journey started out as physical interest in mastering the postures (asana). i grew up with sports. as a child and teenager athletics drew my attention. in my early twenties i discovered rock climbing and mountaineering. then i spent many years practicing yoga to sustain my rock climbing, slowly yoga took a more prominent place and not only the physical journey also the spiritual journey started to draw my attention. in injuries i sustained climbing i found my yoga practice a tremendous tool in recovery. Not only to cope on a mental level but also to assist the healing process, to realign and balance the physical body. today my yoga extends far beyond the time i spent on the mat - it is my life. for the last 12 years i have been teaching regular classes and workshops, mainly in new zealand. my back ground is in the iyengar method. i have been teaching athletes, children, pregnancy, people with sports injuries (knee and shoulders), regular classes and special needs classes. in the past eight years i have been training teachers. my teacher trainees have taken on teaching regular classes here in Wanaka. i will commence teaching workshop and retreats here in beautiful lake wanaka, but I also want to expand my teaching to bali and germany, my birth country. i am planning on teaching more workshop and retreats, including asana work, yoga nidra, pranayama (yogic breathing), chakra energy work, walking meditation and dance.'
